Why is SHM important?

SHM:

Simple harmonic motion is the periodic motion of a particle toward a mean position under the influence of a restoring force which is proportional to its displacement.

SHM is important because of the following reasons:

1. It is important to model oscillations for research in wind turbines and vibration in car suspension.
2. SHM is used in pendulum clocks to tell the time because the time period of every SHM is constant.
3. The process of hearing is impossible with simple harmonic motion. Our eardrum vibrates back and forth because soundwaves that enter our cause the eardrum to vibrate.

Thus SHM is important.
