Question

Why is silk so expensive?

Open in App
Solution

Silk is a natural fibre that comes from small insects called silk worms. In order to gain silk from these insects they must be killed and their silk winded up tight to make silk that is strong enough to make clothes. From rearing of silkworms to spinning the cocoons to obtain the final product is a long process. With the demand for silk and declining availability of silkworms, the entire process has become expensive.
