Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, with chemical formula NaHCO₃. Also called as sodium hydrogen carbonate.

Antacid neutralises the stomach acidity by increasing pH. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate which is amphoteric in nature (that is, it reacts with both acid and base).
Aqueous solution of NaHCO3 produces OH- ions which neutralises the excess acid in the stomach.
HCO3 - + H2O →→ H2CO3 + OH-
