When a body is travelling, we can identify the position of body with respect to time taken to travel by measuring its distance travelled, speed , velocity etc.
Speed is a scalar quantity which tells us how fast or slow an object is moving .
It is defined as ratio of distance travelled by time taken.
Speed= Distance /time.
As speed does not talk about direction in which we are travelling . Hence it is incomplete quantity to describe motion.
So, the correct quantity which describe the motion is velocity which is defined as Speed with direction.
Velocity tells us how fast or slow an object is travelling in a particular direction.
