Open in App
Solution

Photosynthesis:

  1. It is the process by which autotrophs are able to synthesize their own food.
  2. Plants use simple inorganic substances such as carbon dioxide, water and sunlight to produce complex organic substances such as glucose and starch.
  3. It is termed as photosynthesis because it can only occur in the presence of sunlight.
  4. The chlorophyll pigment in plants help in trapping the energy from the sun.
  5. Glucose, Oxygen and water are the products formed during photosynthesis.

Importance of sunlight in photosynthesis:

  1. The energy from the sunlight is used to split the water molecule into Hydrogen and Hydroxide ions.
  2. The hydrogen ions reduce Carbon dioxide into Glucose.
