Question

Why is sustainable development important?

Open in App
Solution

Sustainable development means using resources for development such that they are sufficient for the present as well as future generations. If the resources are overused they may be exhausted for future generations to use.

For example, ground water is a renewable resource. It means that it is replenished by nature after some time. However, if we use it more than it is replenished by rains then we would be overusing this resource. Similarly, natural oil is a non-renewable resource. It means that it is limited and cannot be replenished by nature. If we overuse them now, they will not be available for future generations to use.

Therefore, it is important to consider sustainable development for the well-being of the present and the future generations.
