Question

Why is the benzene ring represented with a circle in the between instead of showing the double bonds? I searched the answer in the net but could not get an understable answer. So can I get an answer with a proper explanation?

Solution

It is to represent that the electrons are delocalized...that is in each of the carbon -carbon bond there is a double bond character...but 2 double bonds cannot come together (it affects stability)...so to represent this partial double bond character between every c-c bond ..we draw the circle
