Why is the electric power from the generating station transmitted at a high voltage?
To decrease energy loss
Power loss due to heating is given by (I2Rt, I is the current flowing, R is the resistance of the wire, and t is the time of energy flow.
Current becomes low at high voltage and therefore the loss of energy due to heating (I2Rt) in the wires becomes less.
Electrical energy is transmitted to a long distance at 220 kV.
