Why is the electrolysis of acidulated water considered an example of catalysis?

Solution
Step 1 : Electrolysis of acidulated water is considered to be an example of catalysis because pure water is not a good conductor of electricity but when acid is added it catalyzes the ionization of water and water is dissociated into H+ and OH- ions.
Step 2 : Reason
The electrolysis of acidulated water is considered to be an example of catalysis because : (i) It initiates the chemical reaction which increases the rate of reaction. (ii) The same amount of acid is recovered at the end of the reaction.
