1. If an excess current flows through the electrical appliance, it may damage the appliance.
2. Fuse is generally made of a material that has a low melting point and high resistivity.
Hence a fuse is connected to the electrical appliance which melts on passing an excess current and thus fuse prevents the appliance from being damaged.
