Solution
The health of a person helps him to realise his potential and the ability to fight illness. An unhealthy person becomes a liability for an organisation. Health is an indispensable basis for realising one's well-being. Therefore, the government is very conscious about it. Improvement in the health status of the population has been the priority of the country. Measures taken by the government to improve the health status of the population:
(i) Improvement in the accessibility of health care, family welfare and nutritional services with a special focus on the under-privileged segment of population.
(ii) A vast health infrastructure has been built. Results: (i) Life expectancy has been increased to over 64 years in 2000. (ii) Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) had come down from 147 in 1951 to 75 in 2000. (iii) Crude birth rates have dropped to 26.1 and death rates to 8.7 within the same duration of time.
