Why is the hydration enthalpy of alkaline earth metals greater than alkali metals?

Dear Student
The size of alkali metals are larger than alkaline earth metals in there respective period. Because of larger size the charge density is less therefor the solvation will be less and hydration enery will also be less for alkali metals.
