Why is the law proposed by Newland called the Law of Octaves?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Newland's Law of Octaves:

Newland arranged the elements which were known at that time, in the increasing order of their atomic masses. Such that every eighth element had similar properties as the first element.

Step 2: The law was named so because he compared it to the octaves found in the music scale. Therefore, he named the law, the law of octaves.
