Solution

Dear student

In desert plants, epidermis is present as a thick waxy coating of cuticle because the rate of evaporation is high in deserts.
The thick layer prevents the water from evaporating from the plant. Thus, desert plants are able to survive high temperatures.
This thick waxy coating of cutin is present in desert plants to prevent excessive loss of water during transpiration. Due to this, plants can survive in scarcity of water in deserts.

They can prevent water loss more effectively than stomata in deserts.
