Why is the leakage of LPG detected easily although it is odourless? State the steps to be taken in case its leakage is detected in the kitchen.
LPG is an odorless gas and so when it is filled in cylinder a gas with strong smell is added with it which is known as ethyl mercaptan which is a sulphur compound with molecular formula (C2H5-SH) so that when the LPG gas leaks, this gas also comes out and gives a specific smell which is easily detected
Steps to be taken in case of LPG leakage:
1. Extinguish any flame and do not light any matches or lighter.
2. Open all doors and windows.
3. Close the LPG regulator.
4. Call the gas company.
