Why is the motion of a body moving with a constant speed around a circular path said to be accelerated?

Since in an uniform circular motion, although the speed of body remains constant but the direction of velocity of the body changes continuously and hence the velocity of the body changes at every instant.
Acceleration of the body is defined as the rate of change in velocity of the body.
Hence the body is said to be accelerated though the speed is constant in a circular path.
