Why is the phylum Hemichordata not included under chordates ? What similarity do they show with non-chordates?

Solution

Dear student, Some reasons because the phylum hemichordata are not considered as Chordata are as follows :Hemichordates are worm-like, marine animals while chordates live in water, land, and air. The main difference between Hemichordata and Chordata is that Hemichordata contains an epidermal nervous system whereas Chordata contains a central nervous system. Chordates contain a dorsal, tubular nerve cord.As such they don't show any similarities except that non-chordates and hemichordata both are warm blooded. Regards
