Solution

Dear Student

The media is a forum for communication between the government and the citizens. It highlights the important issues pertaining to public life. Hence it acts as a beacon of light for all sections of a democratic society to know one another and to form balanced public opinion about key issues and act accordingly. Hence press is called a lighthouse of democracy.

If the press would not be free then there will be no check on activities of the government. As there will be lesser transparency and accountability of government towards citizens of the country, functioning of government may be affected and may be ineffective.
