Question

Why is the solid state the most dense state of matter ?

Open in App
Solution

Solid-state:

  • In solid state intermolecular forces of attraction are very strong which does not allow molecules of a solid to move here and there freely.
  • In this way solids have more number of molecules in a unit volume as compared to gas or liquids which shows that solid has maximum density
  • In solid the particles are closely packed and have negligible amount of inter particle space because of which the density is most in the solid state.
