Why is the switch put in the live wire?

The switch should always be connected to the
live wire, so that when it is 'off' no current
flows through the appliance.
If the switch is connected to the neutral wire,
then even in the 'off' position the appliance
remains connected to high potential through
the live wire.
If a person tries to touch the appliance, the
person might get a shock, which can be
dangerous.
