Why is tourism considered a trade as well as an industry?

Tourism can be considered as a trade because :
  1. It involves exchange and buying/selling of products.
  2. The products can be defined in terms of holiday packages , hotel rents, means of transport and hospitality etc.
  3. Exchange of cultures take place and these exchanges are in monetary terms.
  4. Foreign tourists visit India for heritage tourism, adventure tourism, cultural tourism, and business tourism and in the same manner Indians visit foreign places.
Tourism can be considered as an industry because:
  1. Tourism is a large scale industry as the money involved in it is very high.
  2. There is near about Rs 21,​828 crore of foreign exchange per year.
  3. Large numbers of people are directly engaged in tourism industry, as many as 20 million people.
  4. Promotes national integration and local handicrafts along with culture and heritage.
  5. It has huge chances of expansion.
