Transpiration is considered as a necessary evil because most of the water absorbed by the root is not used by the plant, but lost from the aerial parts of the plant during transpiration. It also helps the plants in the following ways:
(a) It causes movement of water and minerals from roots to the top of the plant.
(b) It helps in maintaining optimum turgidity in plant cells which is necessary for growth and development.
(c) It has a cooling effect and prevents the plant from heat injury.
