Open in App
Solution

Transpiration

  • Transpiration is the evaporation of water from plants that occurs on the leaves, while their stomata are open for the passage of CO2andO2 during photosynthesis.

Importance

  1. Transpiration helps in carrying water and minerals to different parts of the plant.
  2. It maintains osmosis and keeps the cells strong.
  3. It maintains the turgidity of the cells and helps in cell division.
  4. The force of absorption is created by transpiration which helps in the upward movement of water in plants.
  5. Some hydrophilic salts accumulate on the surface of the leaves, which keeps the leaves moist.
  6. Due to the constant dehydration from the plant body, there is a water balance maintained within the plant.
