Question

Why is tRNA Called So?

Open in App
Solution

Transfer RNA:

  1. Transfer RNA is an adapter molecule made up of RNA with a length of 76 to 90 nucleotides that acts as a physical link between mRNA and protein amino acid sequences.
  2. Transfer RNA accomplishes this by transporting an amino acid to the ribosome, which is a cell's protein-synthesis machinery.
  3. t-RNA binds to the ribosomal m-RNA complex via initiation and elongation factors, making it easier for the right amino acid to be added to the polypeptide chain via its unique anticodon to the m-RNA codon.
  4. As a result, t-RNA is referred to as a 'adapter.'
