Question

Why is variation important for a species?

Open in App
Solution

Variation is necessary for the survival of species as variation makes species more adapted to survive and grow in the changing environmental conditions. The variant species helps the species overcome the adversities of extreme conditions in their surroundings.

Therefore, they can survive better and reproduce to pass the genes to the offspring. Variation occurs during meiosis which causes gamete formation in the organism. This maintains the population and hence in every generation variation occurs in the genetic material.
