Dear Student,

Chlorine is a very efficient disinfectant.In water treatment plants water is chlorinated because chlorine kills the disease causing pathogens such as bacteria ,virus and protozoans present in water and saves from many water borne diseases like cholera.
The process of adding chlorine to water is called water chlorination.
