Dear Student

Plants require sun and water for photosynthesis because the formula for photosynthesis is :

they take in carbon dioxide and water and light and turn it into glucose and as a by-product oxygen.

The traditional method of irrigation was walking up and down the field row by row with a plough that was pulled by a cow or bull, whereas modern method use a machine such as a combine harvester. Traditional method use hand watering for watering the crops where as modern method use tools for that which does not require hand watering. Modern irrigation use many advanced technology for growing crops like genetically engineered plants, better pest control, better farming techniques(such as No-Till) and many more where as traditional method does not.

It is a artificial method of storing water. It is a natural method in which naturally restored water is used.
It is built across the slope for preserving water. It is dig in the areas where water table is high.
It provides water at the time of irregular monsoon of dry season. It is a perennial source of water. It provides water all the year round.
Tank irrigation is built in areas where digging well is difficult due to hard rock and level of underground water is low. Well irrigation is done in soft rock areas and where high level of underground water is there.
It is commonly done in peninsular India.States like M.P.,Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. It is commonly done in Indo-Gangetic plains.States like U.P.,Punjab, Haryana, Bihar ,Gujarat,Narmada valley,Tapi valley etc.

Canal is a type of irrigation system in which the main source of water, that is a river is connected to far away fields by means of canals and distributaries.

River lift system is a type of irrigation in which water is drawn directly from the rivers (instead of canals). It is possible for areas near to rivers only. River lift system is employed in areas where canals do not have sufficient water flow.
