Question

why is white silver chloride turned into blue colour in presence of Sunlight

Open in App
Solution

Dear student
Upon exposing silver chloride to sunlight, grey colour instead of blue colour is observed. This is because AgCl decomposes to form Ag (grey in colour) along with chlorine gas.
This reaction occurs in the presence of sunlight:
2AgCl2Ag + Cl2
