Question

Why knife have sharp edges

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

We have the relation Pressure = Force / Area .

Means pressure is inversely proportional to area. Implies smaller the area larger will be the pressure.

For knife ,Sharp edges have smaller area. We know that Smaller the area larger the pressure. sharp knives will exert larger pressure on the object while cutting due to its smaller area which makes it easier to cut.So Knife have sharp edges to reduce area as if area is small then pressure exerted on it would be high, so it will be easy to cut.

Hope you understood.
