Why lemon and Tamarind is used for leaning the copper posts/vessels?

Copper pots/vessels get tarnished due to oxidation forming copper oxide, which is basic in nature.
Lemon juice contains citric acid and tamarind contains tartaric acid. When tamarind juice or lemon juice is added to it, neutralization reaction takes place. And they will react with a basic layer of copper carbonate on the surface to form soluble salts which are easily removed and surface shines.
