Question

Why Lewis base h20 does not act as lowary acid

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Lewis base is an electron pair donor and the Lowry acid is an proton donor.
When H2O acts as Lewis acid, it donates the lone pair of electrons present on the oxygen and hence accepts a proton to which the lone pair is donated. Thus, it can be Lowry base but not acid.
