Question

Why magnetic field liine can originate with any angle from conductor

Open in App
Solution

Dear student
Electric field and hence electric lines of force should be perpendicular to the surface ofthe conductor as as electric potential is defined asdv=-E.dlIf electric field on the surface of the conductor is not perpendicular to the surface than there is a potential difference along the surface of the conductor and hencethe will be a surface current but in electrostatic position current in the conductor is zero. But in case ofmagnetic field B.dl does not represent potential difference so magnetic field lines can enter they or terminate at any angle at the conducting surface.Regards
