Question

Why do magnetic lines of force start at the North pole and end at the south pole outside the magnet while inside the magnet, the lines of force move from the south pole to the North pole?

Solution

Magnetic lines of force

  1. The magnetic lines of force are an imaginary line that represents the direction of a magnetic field, with the tangent at any location pointing in the same direction as the field vector.
  2. The north and south pole of the magnet attracts each other due to the motion of charges and position. so, outside the magnet, the lines move from north to south.
  3. The magnetic field lines are closed loops. so at the internal part of the magnet, they will run from South to North.
  4. The route of an imaginary independent north pole is shown by these lines around the magnet.

Hence, Outside the magnet, magnetic lines of force begin at the North pole and finish at the South pole, whereas inside the magnet, lines of force go from the South to the North pole.
