Meiosis and gametogenesis
The creation of gametes is called gametogenesis.
Meiosis is a cell division process that reduces the number of chromosomes, or DNA content, in the daughter cells by half.
During syngamy, the DNA content of the offspring is restored by fusing male and female gametes.
Gametogenesis happens through meiosis to produce haploid gametes in order to maintain a consistent chromosome number over generations.
