Why moisture level of food grains should be checked before storage ?

  • Before storage, moisture level of food grains should not be more than 9%, otherwise growth of microorganisms (bacteria and fungi etc.) will take place causing either discolouration or complete spoilage of food grains.
  • If freshly harvested grains are stored without drying, they may get spoilt or attacked by microorganisms, losing their germination capacity.
