Question

Why molality is preferred over moalarity in expressing the concentration of a solution?

Open in App
Solution

Molarity= MolesofsoluteVolumeofsolution(L)
Molality=molesofsolutemassofsolvent(kg)
The volume changes with temperature while the mass of solvent is independent of solvent.
Therefore, the molarity changes with temperature but the molality is constant.
Therefore, molality is preferred over molality in expressing the concentration of the solution.
