Question

Why mountaineers carry oxygen cylinders while going to high mountain peaks?

Open in App
Solution

Atmospheric pressure normally decreases with increasing altitude. Atmospheric pressure is the force experienced at a point on a surface by the weight of the air column above that point. Hence, as we climb to higher altitudes the amount of air decreases. And this lack of enough oxygen may cause suffocation to mountaineers when they reach high altitudes. So as a precaution mountaineers usually carry oxygen cylinders with them.
