Why must both the f0 and the fe of a compound microscope have short focal length?

The angular magnification of eye piece is (1+dfe)

Hence as fe decreases angular magnification increases,

Also the magnification of object lens is uv

The object lies close to the focus of objective lens u=f

Therefore to increase the magnification fshould be small.
