Question

Why nickel palladium and platinum are used as a catalyst? (What special properties they have which other elements do not have)

Open in App
Solution

1. The three of them are transition metals, which have d-orbital which can participate in electron exchanging and form weak bonds.

2. Also, they are chemically less reactive as they have filled d-orbital.

So, the above two properties make them good catalysts.
