Question

Why nucleus of an atom tend to be radioactive. And why is a very high temperature required for the process of nuclear fission

Solution

Dear student,
Proton and neutron exist together in the nucleus but as the number of the neutron is more than the number of protons then nucleus becomes unstable and hence result in the conversion of a neutron into the proton and emitting a beta particle in the process and then nucleus becomes radioactive

High temperature is required to provide the energy required to overcome the binding energy of the atom.
