Question

Why on evaporation solid converts into liquid below its boiling point? Why not above?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Evaporation is process in which the solid gets converted into liquid when the optimum temperature and pressure conditions are attained. A net reduction of free energy takes place. there is no extra energy required from outside.
In boiling, extra energy is required for the formation of bubbles of the liquid. So, due to the need of this extra energy, solid gets converted to liquid below its boiling point.

If the temperature is above the boiling point, the process will be called vaporization and not evaporation.
