Why one matter has different states

• These states are possible because of the varying inter particle force of attraction, inter particle space between them etc.
• As the inter particle force of attraction increase, the state of the substance goes from gas to liquid to solid
• As the inter particle space between the particles increase, the state of the substance goes from solid to liquid to gases.
• The states of matter may also be defined in terms of transitions.
• A phase transition indicates a change in the structure and can be recognized by an abrupt change in properties,
• A distinct state of matter is one out of the set of states that can be distinguished from any other set of states by a phase transition.
