Open in App
Solution

Atomic number of oxygen is 8. It is having electronic configuration of 2,6. To obtain 8 electrons in the last orbit and to become stable oxygen wants of 2 more electrons. This can be achieved by sharing electrons with another oxygen atom. So oxygen is always existing as O2 by mutually sharing the electrons.
