Question

why only the yellow formation of plaque can be seen on our teeth, why is it not of any other colour?

Solution

Plaque formation occurs due to the growth of bacteria in the mouth. Growth of bacteria results in the synthesis of molecules like polysaccharides and proteins which together form structure called biofilms. The biofilms have almost the same components and the molecules present are generally yellow or off white in colour. Due to their similar composition, bacteria in them are also similar. Hence, they produce a similar colour i.e. yellow or off white. The other colour of plaque could be orange, but that is due to fungal growth which occurs beacuse of improper cleansing of teeth.
