Open in App
Solution
The substance which gives hydrogen ion when dissolved in water are known as acids.
Phenol can lose a hydrogen ion and forms phenoxide ion which is more stable than phenol due to the delocalization of the negative charge.
Thus phenol prefers to lose hydrogen as cation to form phenoxide ion and hence phenols are acidic in nature.
