Nitrogen:

  1. Nitrogen is present in the free gaseous state in the atmosphere.
  2. Plants cannot absorb N2directly.
  3. But they can absorb nitrogen in form of nitrites and nitrates present in the soil.
  4. Atmospheric nitrogen is converted into usable forms by microbes present in the soil.
