Question

Why polar molecular solids are soft solids even though they have strong dipole dipole interaction?

Open in App
Solution

1. The polar molecular solids such as sugar etc, are formed by the attraction in dipoles.

2. These dipoles are not the permanent charges but the induced charges, that are induced by the polar environment of the molecule.

3. The as these are weaker forces, the solids formed are comapratively soft as compared to ionic or covalent solids.
