Question

why potassium Hydroxide sticks are kept inside the bell jar

Open in App
Solution

Potassium hydroxide absorbs CO2 which is present inside the bell jar. When carbon dioxide is absorbed, leaves present in the bell jar will not get CO2 for photosynthesis. As a result, starch will not be synthesised. This is used as an experiment to show the importance of carbon dioxide in the process of photosynthesis.
