'Public health facilities' are named so as they aim at providing healthcare facilities to all people, regardless of their economic background, at a very affordable cost. This is in contrast to the private hospitals that are established with a sole motive of making profit and, thus, cater to economically strong sections of the society. It is the responsibility of the government to provide basic health services to general public in both rural and urban areas. They may be in the form of hospitals , dispensaries or healthcare centres.
