1. There are dedicated tracks for railways on which trains can run according to a schedule. On the other hand, roadways are prone to traffic congestion and the journey time can be very variable.

2. Trains are more economical than roadways in carrying freight. A train can carry goods at far lower average cost than means of road transport.
